Clubs/Programs
Participation in clubs and activities helps students develop a sense of camaraderie and make friendships based on common interests. We encourage students to get involved and have some fun while they learn new skills.
Band
Band is the music class that is inclusive of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments for 6-7-8 graders.
Beginning Band - 6th Grade
Varsity Band - 7th and 8th Grade
Varsity
Students who have at least one year of experience in band qualify to join the Varsity Band. Now that students know the basics of playing their instrument, they enjoy advancing their skill sets and have more performance and contest opportunities. The Varsity Band has a Band Council that fosters leadership within our program. Varsity Band members enjoy two seasonal concerts each semester. During the fall semester, students can enter the honor band audition process at the district and regional levels. We also try to include a community performance — this year, we performed at Hulen Mall. As a band, we become acquainted with our high school marching band programs and enjoy going to a couple of football games. During the spring semester, the Varsity Band participates in two solo and ensemble contests. As an ensemble, we prepare to go to the UIL contest, and we enjoy several enriching field trips together.
Varsity Band is a performance-based course for 7th and 8th graders, with beginning band being the prerequisite course to acquaint students with their primary instrument. Varsity Band focuses on students learning how to perform in an ensemble setting, and on mastering the skills their instrument requires. Varsity Band is a "no pass, no play course."
Practice is an expectation, and sectionals occur once per week after school. Performances include a free summer band camp, performing with high school marching band programs, formal band concerts, UIL Concert and Sight Reading, Solo and Ensemble Contests, community events, and more!
Students develop leadership skill sets through "Band Buddies." This is a new peer-mentoring program in place that occurs once per week after school.
Beginner
Beginning band is for 6th-grade students who have a desire to study a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument and participate in a full ensemble contest called "Music Across Texas" in the Spring. Instrument interviews occur during the 5th-grade year to determine the instrument students will study.
In Beginning Band, we study how to read music and become acquainted with the instrument we will study. There is at least one seasonal concert each semester. In the spring, after we have learned the basics, students enjoy the opportunity to participate in two contests as a band ensemble and a solo contest, too.

DMS 4th Grade Music will Link Up! with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, March 18, from 12- 2 p.m.

Middle School
Garden Explorers
Garden Explorers: The DMS Garden Explorers is an on-campus program that is available to students, faculty and families. The program’s goal is to help foster a love of the outdoors, an appreciation of healthy food and what it takes to grow it (it does not just appear at the supermarkets).
The Garden program (Green Thumb Club) meets bi-monthly after school, with the exception of Kindergarten & TAP classes who meet during the school day.
Kindergarten & TAP classes work in the Courtyard Garden located outside the elementary building. The students work in raised veggie beds, trellis house for vining veggies, butterfly and pollinator garden and learn about various native and perennial plants.
Grades 1-8 grow vegetables in the eight raised garden beds near the playground and learn about native plants for pollinators in the butterfly garden behind the greenhouse. Fun fact: DMS is a Monarch Waystation.

As you know, the PTA has been taking used clothing, bedding, towels, shoes, and other textiles/fabrics for an ongoing fundraiser.
Well, NOW, instead of bringing your bags of clothing to the office, you can unload them in the NEW OUTDOOR RECYCLING BIN whenever you feel like it! It is available to the surrounding neighborhoods too!
The bin is located on Lipscomb St. near Page, just South of Daggett Montessori’s entrance/drop off-pick up area. THANK YOU, GREEN TEAM!
Composting
Did you know our campus has a fully functioning compost bin? YES! Our incredible Green Team, in collaboration with Dragon Dads, built a 3-bin compost station at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, and our students have been learning how to compost and even adding the good stuff to their raised beds!
No-Idle Zone
Help keep the air clean on our campus! Look for these No Idle signs and try to turn off your engine at drop-off and pickup!

Our Parent / Student Agreement is extremely important to read, understand, sign and return. Along with this form you will need to provide $40 cash for instrument rental if you have not already done so. You can download a copy of the form HERE.

Dragon Dash
The Dragon Dash Color Run is a campus-wide pledged walk/run that promotes living a healthy lifestyle and raises funds that support wellness initiatives on our campus. Over the years, we’ve raised thousands of dollars for various health and fitness items, and this year is no exception! Previous year’s generous donations have allowed us to purchase athletic equipment used campus wide and even paint our logo in the middle school gym, promoting school pride and team spirit. Additionally, we are working on a proposal to purchase much needed new fitness equipment!
During the RUN, students may choose to run through a color station where their white t-shirts will be sprayed with non-toxic colored dye and then run through another station erupting with billowing foam! This is truly a fun and amazing event!!
Theater
Students who participate in the cast or crew of any production at Daggett Montessori are a part of The Dragon's Tale Players. We typically produce three plays a year (Fall, Spring, and a Winter one-act play for UIL competition). Open auditions are held for each show, and the rehearsal process is typically 6 weeks. In addition, 7th and 8th grade theatre students are eligible to audition for the Dragon's Tale Players Improve Troupe, which competes in a regional competition called the Dionysia Festival each November. At the end of the year, we hold a theatre banquet and awards ceremony where we share a meal, celebrate our hard work, and find out who was awarded BEST COSTUME or FUNNIEST LINE. Come join the fun and be part of the magic!
Whiz Quiz
Here are some interesting facts about our DMS Whiz Quiz teams:
Whiz Quiz is a Middle School academic competition team. DMS has both a 6th and 7th/8th grade team. Tryouts are held at the beginning of the school year. Practice is twice a week during students’ lunch period, and games are one evening a week. Game days differ depending on the team. Whiz quiz begins at the end of September and ends before the holiday break in December. Finals are sometime in January. Each team has a teacher sponsor who meets with them to prepare and organize their team.
Five students from each school compete at one time. Questions asked during competitions span knowledge in science, social studies, grammar, pop culture, geography, literature, and math. Students receive points for answering these questions correctly. If you like Jeopardy, you will love Whiz Quiz- they even have buzzers!
